It’s time to award the best and worst of humanity from the week.
And what a week it was.
From the putrid Inflation Reduction Act and IRS expansion proposal to the FBI raid of Trump, the best and worst of humanity was on full display.
Last week’s Winner: Lauren Boebert 🏆 Congresswoman: Reminding us that the lack of turnaround to read, understand, and vote on bills is a major issue that needs to be addressed.
Last week’s Weasel: Joe Biden 🦡, President of the United States Weasel of word revision: The media and Biden's administration have changed the definition of recession in an attempt to downplay any negative press about his presidency. However, this has only served to decrease his approval rating even further. It's clear that they believe the general public is too stupid to see through their lies. Insulting!
Let’s get to it.
Winner
Donald Trump, Survivor of The Hunt™
Here’s why: I know, I know. How could Trump be considered the best of humanity after this week of Hell? Well, if you’re Trump, this week is a good week for you.
The January 6 insurrection narrative was put to rest by the Democrats in their own Congressional Hearing. The narrative went from “Trump orchestrated an insurrection” to “People got raucous and Trump waited too long to say something” in a few short hours. This was great for Trump and helps him for the 2024 election cycle.
Now we have the FBI raid on Trump. Let’s take a step back and see the whole picture.
NARA, the National Archives and Records Administration, were working with Trump’s lawyers to gain possession of some documents that Trump had in his possession. Take a look at how CNN documents the beginning of the timeline and note how it starts below:
May 2021
An official from NARA contacts Trump’s team after realizing that several important documents weren’t handed over before Trump left the White House. In hopes of locating the missing items, NARA lawyer Gary Stern reaches out to someone who served in the White House counsel’s office under Trump, who was the point of contact for recordkeeping matters. The missing documents include some of Trump’s correspondence with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as well as the map of Hurricane Dorian that Trump infamously altered with a sharpie pen.
What. A. World.
There is reason to believe that the FBI's investigation into Trump's mishandling of classified documents is occurring because Trump has orchestrated it. Trump is a shrewd individual who would not have taken such risks without considering the possible consequences. It is possible that he hung on to documents he shouldn’t have because he knows the consequences would be light and the outcomes would be beneficial for him and his 2024 run. He sees the entire situation as a net positive for him.
This looks and feels like Trump baited the FBI and DOJ. Instead of giving NARA what they needed, I estimate he calculated all possibilities and risks and decided that possessing these documents - making the FBI and DOJ go after him - would be the best path forward for a 2024 White House run.
The national spotlight is back on Trump as Republicans and Independents unite behind him. It looks like he is the target of a political assassination, but Trump is harnessing all the energy and using it to his benefit.
The FBI and DOJ are currently in a difficult position. They will have to do a lot of explaining. I would not bet on them against Trump. The January 6 hearings backfired on the Democrats, exonerating Trump and giving him more attention and energy.
I expect this investigation to have a similar outcome.
Jail time? Zero chance.
Annoying lawsuits or trial? Likely.
But this means spotlight and energy. Spotlight + Energy = Trump wins. Every. Time.
Expect Trump to announce he’s running for a second term soon.
The Hunt™continues.
Congrats to Donald Trump for being our Winner of the Week.
Weasel
Merick Garland, Attorney General of the United States.
Here’s why:
This.
That. Little. Weasel.
Let’s go through the full transcript:
Good afternoon. Since I became attorney general, I have made clear that the Department of Justice will speak through its court filings and its work.
Just now, the Justice Department has filed a motion in the Southern District of Florida to unseal a search warrant and property receipt relating to a court approved search that the FBI conducted earlier this week. That search was a premises located in Florida, belonging to the former president. The department did not make any public statements on the day of the search.
Ok. We copy loud and clear.
The former president publicly confirmed the search that evening, as is his right. Copies of both the warrant and the FBI property receipt were provided on the day of the search to the former president's counsel, who was on site during the search.
The search warrant was authorized by a federal court upon the required finding of probable cause. The property receipt is a document that federal law requires law enforcement agents to leave with the property owner. The department filed the motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the former president's public confirmation with the search, the surrounding circumstances and the substantial public interest in this matter.
Faithful adherence to the rule of law is the bedrock principle of the Justice Department and of our democracy. Upholding the rule of law means applying the law evenly, without fear or favor. Under my watch, that is precisely what the Justice Department is doing.
Such a weasel. I hate to do the “what about”, but I think it is appropriate here. Where was this faithful adherence to the rule of law while Hillary Clinton’s classified emails were on a personal server and ended up God knows where?
It is hypocritical of the Democrats to demand adherence to the rule of law only when it suits them. This partisan approach to justice is dangerous and undermines the legitimacy of our legal system.
To say these things at this time is dark and twisted. Without fear or favor?
He’s saying it right in your face. He is mocking you.
All Americans are entitled to the even handed application of the law, to due process of the law, and to the presumption of innocence. Much of our work is by necessity conducted out of the public eye. We do that to protect the constitutional rights of all Americans and to protect the integrity of our investigations.
Federal law, long standing department rules and our ethical obligations prevent me from providing further details as to the basis of the search at this time. There are however, certain points I want you to know.
First, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter. Second, the department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.
We need to hear how they attempted to make this less intrusive. He leaves that part out conveniently. We shouldn’t have to go figure that out on our own.
Third, let me address recent unfounded attacks on the professionalism of the FBI and Justice Department agents and prosecutors. I will not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked.
The men and women of the FBI and the Justice Department are dedicated, patriotic public servants. Every day, they protect the American people from violent crime, terrorism and other threats to their safety, while safeguarding our civil rights. They do so at great personal sacrifice and risk to themselves. I am honored to work alongside them.
This is clever. Everyone is going to be critical of the FBI’s actions in this investigation because it looks and feels like a politically-motivated attack. Democrats, like narcissists, will always take on the victim role, especially in the instances where they are the oppressor who created victims.
This is all I can say right now. More information will be made available in the appropriate way and at the appropriate time. Thank you.
This thing was packed with persuasion and propaganda. Disgusting.
The speech tries to downplay the severity of the situation by emphasizing that the former president is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence. It also portrays the Justice Department as being upholders of the rule of law who make decisions based on what is best for the American people, but our observations suggest something different. Finally, it tries to discredit anyone who speaks badly of the FBI or the Justice Department by calling them dedicated and patriotic public servants.
Congrats to Merrick Garland for being our Weasel of the Week.
