Policing In The United States Is Safe And Effective
A few thousand cases of police brutality (adverse policing) and unarmed citizen deaths are the cost worth paying for the overall net benefit of society.
Policing in the United States is safe and effective.
We know data show white men are disproportionately harmed and killed by police when accounting for disproportionate crime rates. However, we also know that a short, 30-second video of police brutality against Black citizens sends millions into disarray. It induces an emotion-triggering shock-wave that devastates those in America who are high in agreeableness and neuroticism.
Those high in agreeableness and neuroticism want policing to improve. So does everyone. But there are many in this demographic that want drastically reform policing in America.
That seams rational.
But Policing in the United States is safe and effective just like vaccines.
Why?
About 1,000 people died last year from police shootings.
About 3,500 people died this year from the COVID vaccine.
Everyone knows that there are going to be adverse effects and death from the COVID vaccine. There is a 0.000021875% chance that you will die from the COVID vaccine, given there’s been 3,500 deaths out of 164 million people vaccinated. To argue that having 3,500 people die was not a price worth paying to save exponentially more lives is to broadcast to the world that you have a child’s mind. Vaccines are safe and effective as their benefit outweighs the risk, by a lot.
Likewise, there is a 0.000003125% chance that you will die from being shot by police. The chance of you getting shot and killed by police is much less than dying from the COVID vaccine. Policing in the United States is safe and effective. There is going to be a cost, but the cost is worth the benefit.
Everything in society is going to cost lives. Food. Pollution. Phones. Cars. However, society will always keep the things that have a net positive.
Policing and vaccines are safe and effective.
Dude this sucked
